The Galla goat is a native breed from northern Kenya, especially among the Borana and Somali communities, and is sometimes referred to as the Somali goat.Galla goats are indigenous to Northern Kenya, especially regions like Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa, where the climate is hot and dry.

Galla goats are Usually white or light brown, sometimes mixed with spots. Their Body Size is Medium-sized but muscular and strong. They thrive in harsh environments with minimal feeding while Calm and easy to manage. Adult males can weigh up to 70 kg, while females reach up to 55 kg. Renowned as "milk queens," Galla goats produce approximately 3 liters of milk daily, surpassing crossbreeds (1.5 liters) and indigenous breeds (0.5 liters).

 Their milk is rich in calcium and amino acids, essential for bone development, and contains 35% fatty acids, higher than cow milk's 17%. This nutritional profile makes it especially suitable for children and convalescents ( a person who is recovering after an illness or medical treatment). .Galla goats exhibit rapid growth, with males reaching up to 60 kg by 15 months. Females can be bred as early as six months, producing two additional kids before full maturity. Their gestation period is approximately 150 days.

At full maturity, male gala goats can weigh up to 70 kg, while females reach up to 55 kg. Galla goats are highly profitable due to their rapid growth, high milk yield, and adaptability to harsh conditions. A six-month-old male can sell for around Sh8,000, with prices reaching up to Sh50,000 at full maturity (15 months). Females at six months sell for about Sh7,000 and up to Sh30,000 when mature. Characteristics of Boer Goats

Boer goats, developed in South Africa for meat production, are characterized by a white body and red head, with large drooping ears and a robust, compact body. They are hardy and adaptable to various climates. Boer goats exhibit rapid growth, with proper feeding and management leading to weight gains of up to 200g per day. This translates to a live weight of 30-35 kg in about five months. Mature does weigh between 86 and 104 kg, while bucks range from 91 to 154 kg. Boer goats are polyestrous, breeding year-round.

A mature two-year-old buck weighing about 100 kg may fetch Sh60,000, while young stock (5-12 months) range between Sh30,000 and Sh50,000, depending on sex.
